Mark 7:1-23
Heartless religion will always fall short of the glory of God and lead to the sin of hypocrisy.
No religious Expert; Pastor, Pope, Priest, Rabbi, Imam, Guru, Theologian, Wiccan Humanist or Voodoo Witch Doctor, can change the truth. "Pharisees and scribes came together to Him...from Jerusalem." 7:1
Jesus exposes the hypocrisy of man-made religion.
An empty admiration of God: "Their heart is far from ME and in vain they worship Me." 7:6
An exchange of God's ways for man's ways: "You reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition." 7:7-9, 13
Jesus teaches about a heart relationship with God.
We are not considered sinful because we fail to adhere to man-made religious customs.
We are considered sinful because our hearts are evil and set against God. 7:14-23
Therefore to be right with God, we do not need to try to be more religious. Rather, we need to be honest about our hearts and trust in God's mercy.
