"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Matthew 6:13
Give Us, Forgive Us, Lead Us and Deliver Us: There are the four desperate needs of mankind when faced with the reality of God and the dilemmas of life. The last two petitions, Lead Us and Deliver us, represent the desire of the forgiven, spiritually awaken soul to please God and live according to His purposes.
Lead us not into temptation: The greatest and gravest temptations besetting Christians today are the buffet of "self-sins". One needs look no further than one's own soul and motives to find their devastating effects. Self-pity, self-indulgence, self-deception, self-righteousness, selfishness, self-loathing, self-worship, and self-destruction are all so very common today.

Deliver us from evil: Though self-sins are an ever present danger, Deliver us from evil is the acknowledgement of the abiding malevolence of this fallen world and our need for divine protection.
